Prime Minister of Cambodia asks UN meeting to “stop” Thailand

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called on to the United Nations Security Council to summon an “urgent meeting” to “interrupt the aggression of Thailand” after the intensification of fights between the neighbors.

Manet stated that, premeditated and deliberated against Cambodian positions along the border areas, ”accusing them of violating international law in a letter to Security Council President Asim Iftikhar Ahmad.

“Given this blatant aggression, the Cambodian troops had no choice but to respond in self -defense in order to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Cambodia,” wrote the prime minister.

“It is deeply reprehensible that this act of aggression occurs as Cambodia actively seeks peaceful and impartial legal roads to resolve border -boundary issues through bilateral and international mechanisms.”

In installing terrestrial mines in Thai territory, on the disputed border, and by firing rockets against civil areas on Thursday morning (24).

“The Thai royal government appeals to Cambodia to take responsibility for the incidents, cease attacks against civil and military targets and interrupts all actions that violate Thailand’s sovereignty,” said the Thailand Foreign Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Thailand is “prepared to intensify our self -defense measures if Cambodia persists in its armed attacks and violations,” the statement said.
