Richard Ríos arrived in Benfica as the most expensive reinforcement in the club’s history and, among the many curious looks of the fans, there was a particular reunion that everyone wanted to see: with Nicolás Otamendi.
The two had starred in a tense moment in a match between Colombia and Argentina, in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, when Ríos called “old” to the Argentine captain. The episode became viral at the time, but everything was resolved shortly after the final whistle-and confirmation has come now, with a hug between them at the Benfica Campus resort in Seixal.
The club even fueled the suspense with a staged video, where they came up with boxing gloves, in a humorous allusion to the past. But the reality was much more peaceful: smiles, good mood and a big hug marked the true reunion of ríos and Otamendi, proving that what is going on in the field… is really on the field.
And now… the real reunion! 😅🤝
