We are almost permanently surrounded by electromagnetic noise. It is generated by mobile phones, WLAN routers, power lines or natural sources. In general, this noise is perceived as a useless disorder or sometimes even as a health hazard. A team from the University of Freiburg in Switzerland has now discovered a combination of materials that can be used to convert this noise very efficiently into electrical signals and currents, which in turn can supply battery -free electrical devices, light sources or mechanical drives.
