Brazil faces serious difficulties in establishing effective communication channels with the United States regarding tariff issues that affect trade between the two countries. The situation has been particularly challenging due to the lack of clarity in the information provided by US representatives.
According to the evaluation of Welber Barral, former Secretary of Foreign Trade, during the program WW This Wednesday (23), there is little transparency on the part of the US authorities, including the United States Embassy itself, about possible ways for Brazil to start a constructive dialogue on the subject.
Hesitant American companies
A remarkable phenomenon has been observed in the current scenario: American companies that keep in touch with Brazilian authorities show difficulty convincing their matrices in the United States to engage with the US government. According to Barral, there is a widespread fear of these companies to become targets of possible retaliation.
The situation has generated pessimism about possible advances in negotiations in the coming days. One of the alternatives in mind is mediation through senators, including a programmed event in the US Chamber of Commerce (US Chamber) with the participation of parliamentarians.
The complexity of the scenario is amplified by the perception that the final decision on the tariffs will be in the hands of President Donald Trump, and it will not be limited to economic or commercial considerations. This factor adds a layer of unpredictability to the process, making the result even more uncertain.
