Her response to the duties she is preparing to impose is being prepared by by, as the deadline of August 1 is approaching, without any agreement between Brussels and Washington.

In particular, the European Union plans to quickly hit the US with 30% duties in goods worth about 100 billion euros, always according to what Bloomberg reports.

the Bloomberg notes, the EU will combine an already approved list of tariffs on US products worth 21 billion euros in US products and an already proposed list of US products worth 72 billion euros, a Commission spokesman said Wednesday.

American exports that will be faced with duties

US exports, including industrial products such as Boeing aircraft, American -made cars and Berbon, will be confronted with duties that will correspond to the threat of 30% of Trump, according to anonymous sources of the international agency. The duties would be ready to enter into force next month, but only if there is no agreement and the US is implementing their duties after August’s deadline, Bloomberg sources added.

As Bloomberg also notes, these plans are coming as EU Member States, including Germany, have toughen their positions towards the United States.

Berlin would even be willing to support the activation of the EU’s “Anti-Coercion Instrument-ACI) tool if there is no agreement, a government official said on the condition of anonymity. This tool will only come to the fore if there is no agreement, it is emphasized.

What is Anti-Coercion Instrument-ACI

It is noted that the ACI tool is EU’s most powerful commercial tool and a growing number of Member States is pushing for its use if no agreement is reached. The medium is mainly designed as a deterrent and is currently not on the negotiating table, and its activation requires a special majority of the Member States to support the traffic. The ACI would allow the EU to launch a wide range of retaliation, including new taxes on US technological giants, targeted restrictions on US investment and restriction of EU market access.

“We are now approaching the decisive phase of the US conflict over duty. We need a fair, credible agreement with low duties, “German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz told reporters in Berlin on Tuesday after meeting with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fyland. “Without such an agreement, we are in danger of economic uncertainty at a time when we need the opposite.”

However, Bloomberg concludes, the overwhelming preference is to continue negotiations with Washington in an effort to find a solution before the August 1 deadline.
