SAO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS) – US President Donald Trump was informed by the US Department of Justice (Doj) in May that his name appears several times in the investigation archives, unlike the Republican had claimed last week.

The mention in the records, by itself, does not indicate irregularities or involvement in illicit activities. In previous disclosures of case -related materials, Trump’s name had already appeared, as well as mentions to the Republican’s family, as he lived with Epstein for years.

According to authorities heard by the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal, Secretary of Justice, Pam Bondi, and her Undersecretary, Todd Blanche, communicated to the president that the archives contained what they both considered “rumors not verified” about many people, including Trump. The conversation would have taken place at a meeting about a month before the government confirmed that it would maintain the confidentiality of part of the documents.

The materials to which the DOJ refers were used in the revision of the case that led to the joint conclusion, the Government Department and the FBI, to reiterate confidentiality, and confirm the financier’s suicide in 2019 and the absence of an alleged “customer list”. The disclosure of this outcome, on July 7, inflamed the trumpper base, which repeatedly charges the disclosure of all files.

Also on Wednesday (23), a federal judge denied the DJ’s request to make public the testimonies of the case, as Trump ordered -in an apparent attempt to satisfy his supporters.

Bondi had officialized the president’s request last Friday (18). Under pressure, the Republican requested the disclosure of “any and all testimony [do caso] pertinent to the great jury ”, due to what he called the“ ridiculous amount of attention given to Jeffrey Epstein ”.

In a 12 -page decision, Judge Robin L. Rosenberg stated that he could not respond legally, according to the guidelines governing the Great Jury’s confidentiality – which is made up of a group of citizens who decide if there is enough evidence for the formal accusation of a crime – established by a US appeal court.

The magistrate wrote that the court “is tied hands.” The government did not request the conclusions of the great jury for use in judicial process, according to her. In general, district courts are prohibited from making public the testimony of the great jury, except under restricted circumstances, he added.

In his request, DOJ cited “broad public interest” and “transparency to the American public” by justifying the request. New York federal judges accompanying the request, but stated that the department had not “properly addressed” the factors under which the material could be disclosed.

Trump’s order came in response to the wave of public collection of its base for the complete disclosure of the investigation archives, of which the FBI and DOJ have possession. In practice, what Trump requested, however, represents a slice of all documents.

Among the investigation files is a letter attributed to Trump, included in a birthday album organized by Ghislaine Maxwell, then Epstein’s girlfriend, to the 2003 financier, which was revealed on Thursday (17) by the Wall Street Journal.

The material contains a design of a naked woman and suggestive messages, as well as alleged writings of other famous personalities. The president denies that he is the author of the text and drawing, which says he is an invention of the newspaper.

After the publication, Trump sued the Wall Street Journal and its owner, Rupert Murdoch, as well as two journalists of the vehicle, accusing them of defamation and slander. The lawsuit was registered at a Florida Federal Court in Miami -nele, Trump asks $ 10 billion in moral damages. The company owner of the vehicle, NewsCorp, has the value valued at about $ 17 billion.

The allied base believes in the archives a series of documents that, in addition to elucidating the case, can identify possible involved who would not have been publicly exposed. Earlier this month, the Justice Department and the FBI published a video from which they claim to have concluded that Epstein committed suicide in jail. The agencies said there is no evidence that he has blackmailing powerful figures or maintaining a “customer list”, as he believed for years.
