The collection ignores the bilateral trade agreement between the two countries, signed in 2012 and incorporated in 2014. The document establishes the tariff exemption for a series of products.
In fact, there was no change in the agreement. What happens, in fact, are the barriers in recognizing the certificates of Brazilian origin in Venezuela.
Venezuela Taxou Brazilian exporters, who ask for dialogue
Brazilian exporters report difficulty in approving certificates by Venezuelan authorities, which has resulted in the tariff of goods up to 77%.
Venezuela has taxed imports amid growing tension with Brazil. The relationship between the two countries shuddered since President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) did not recognize Maduro’s reelection in 2024.
The state of Roraima, which borders the country, is one of the most affected. Venezuela is its main commercial partner, with exports that reached US $ 937 million (more than $ 5 billion) between 2019 and 2023.
The FIER International Business Center (Federation of Industries of the State of Roraima) “is in direct contact with the competent authorities of Brazil and Venezuela, seeking clarification and rapid solutions aimed at the normalization of bilateral commercial flow,” according to note.
The entity also clarified that the processes of issuance and recognition of certificates rigorously follow the rules of Aladi (Latin American Integration Association) and the terms of the trade agreement between Brazil and Venezuela.
