Lula and Bolsonaro in debate
A retired general admitted to being the author of a document that provided for the murder of the current Brazilian president, Lula da Silva, as part of an alleged coup attempt to keep Jair Bolsonaro in power.
According to the Brazilian press, the retired general Mário Fernandeswho acted as a member of the General Secretariat of the Presidency during the Bolsonaro government, confessed to being behind the plan “Green and yellow dagger”.
In an interrogation held on Thursday at the Federal Supreme Court (STF), as part of the trial on an alleged attempted coup, the general admitted the authorship of plan that predicted to kill Lula da Silva to keep Jair Bolsonaro in power.
The former Bolsonaro advisor is a defendant in this case, as is the former chief of state, accused of leading a failed plan to nullify the October 2022 elections and prevent the inauguration of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The reserve general acknowledged that he printed the document containing Lula da Silva’s murder plan, which he classified as only “digitized thinking” and only a “study of the situation.”
Plan foreseen more deaths
According to the Brazilian authorities, the plan also included kidnapping or killing the current vice president, Geraldo Alckminand the judge Alexandre de Moraesrapporteur of the case against Bolsonaro in the Supreme Court.
An investigation by the Brazilian Federal Police indicated that three copies of the document were printed at the Planalto Palace, headquarters of the Brazilian government, in Brasilia, and that Bolsonaro was aware of the document.
“Jair Bolsonaro closely followed the development of the scheme And the possible date of its full execution ”, is affirmed in the complaint of the Attorney General of Brazil, Paulo Gonet.
However, Fernandes claimed in the interrogation, released by the local media, which did not show or shared the document with anyone and tore it shortly thereafter.
“Today I regret having digitized it,” said Fernandes.
In February, the Public Prosecution Service indicated 34 people for involvement in the coup, including Bolsonaro, whom he accused of being the leader of an alleged criminal organization that had the support of former ministers and high military officers.
