The humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip must end immediately, the leaders of Britain, France and Germany said on Friday. At the same time, they called on Israel to immediately abolish the limitations of humanitarian aid flow to this coastal Palestinian enclave. According to them, the time has come to end this war. At the same time, they argue that the militant Hamas movement must not play any role in the future, TASR reports according to the BBC report.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer had previously announced that he would make calls with French President Emmanuel Macron and German office Friedrich Merz to discuss the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and what they can do to speed up the killing and ensure food for Palestinians.
Immediate ceasefire and assistance
The leaders of the E3, which consists of the United Kingdom, France and Germany, called on the conflict parties to end it by reaching an immediate ceasefire. They also appealed to the “unconditional release of all hostages”, which Hamas detains from the attack on Israel of October 7, 2023.
“It is necessary to ensure the most basic needs of the civilian population, including access to water and food, without further delay,” they said in a statement, calling on Israel to quickly allow UN and humanitarian organizations to carry out their work and comply with its obligations arising from international humanitarian law.
Hamas must end
In addition, they criticized the “threats of annexation, settlement and violent acts of settlers” towards the Palestinians, which they think they undermine the prospects for the negotiated two-state solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
At the same time, Starmer, Macron and Merz described it as necessary to disarm Hamas. According to them, the movement must play no role in the future of the Gaza band. They confirmed their determination to work on the “Plan for the next stage of Gaza”, which will include the withdrawal of the Israeli forces from enclave and the removal of the Hamas government.
The moral crisis of the world
UN Secretary -General António Guterres, shortly before, criticized the international community for closing his eyes before the suffering of the Palestinians starving in the Gaza Strip. According to him, it is a “moral crisis that is a challenge for the world’s conscience.”
“I cannot explain the level of indifference and inactivity, which we see among the primary members of the international community – a lack of compassion, a lack of truth, a lack of humanity,” Guterres said through a video linked to the worldwide gathering of the Amnesty International human rights organization.
At the same time, he recalled that although he repeatedly condemned the October attack of Hamas on Israel, which triggered a war in the Gaza Strip, “nothing can justify this explosion of death and destruction that … beyond everything we have recently witnessed”.
