The Civil Police of Maranhão (PCMA) completed the inquiry that investigates the Murder of military police Geidson Thiago da Silva Santos39, shot dead last July 6, during a cowgirl in the municipality of Trizidela do Vale.
According to the police, the perpetrator of the shots was the Mayor of Igarapé Grande, João Vitor Xavier (PDT)what it was indicted for qualified homicide and illegal possession of firearms.
The inquiry, conducted by the 14th Regional Police Station of Pedreiras, was sent to court on Wednesday (23). According to the ballistic report, the shots that hit the policeman departed from a .38 caliber weapon.
Xavier has been pre -imprisoned since last July 15when he surrendered to the headquarters of the Civil Police in São Luís, after the court issued one. In addition to the detention, search and seizure warrants were served at the Mayor of Igarapé Grande and at the mayor’s residence, with the objective of locating the weapon used in the crime and other elements that could assist in the investigations.

Confession of the crime
In the testimony given to the President Dutra Regional Police Station, on July 7, a day after the crime, the Mayor confessed to killing the police and claimed self -defense. He also said he had undone the weapon used, although did not have authorization for size.
Witnesses reported that the victim was surprised by the shots And even rescued alive, it could not resist the severity of the injuries. The Civil Police stressed that there was no flagrant due to the time between the crime and the voluntary presentation of the investigated.
João Vitor Xavier’s Defense Note
“The defense of Mayor João Vitor reaffirms his collaborative stance since the beginning of the investigations, evidenced by his voluntary presentation to the authorities to comply with the court decision, although he disagrees, considering it hasty and devoid of legal protection. Such a matter of the Democratic State of Law will be faced in the competent forum, through appropriate legal instruments.
It is important to highlight that the revocation of pre -trial detention does not pose any risk to procedural instruction. Mayor João Vitor, in addition to presenting himself spontaneously, requested a license of the position for a period of 120 days, removing any possibility of interference in the acts of the investigation. In addition, it is the fact that it has impeccable conduct, never having responded to police inquiry or criminal action, which highlights its suitability and respect for the institutions.
Regarding the indictment, the defense regrets that it has been carried out without the proper analysis of the evidence contained in it, especially the expert report that integrates the case and which expressly discards the allegation of “5 (five) shots in the back”, thus providing the main narrative that supports the imputation.
Finally, the defense expresses full confidence in the Judiciary, informing that it will formulate, in due course, request for revocation of the pre -trial detention with the 2nd Court of the Pedreiras/MA, which, with the regular exercise of the contradictory and the broad defense, will remain the accusations formulated against its constituent. “
