The data are from the Brazilian Public Security Yearbook 2025, released on Thursday (24) by the Brazilian Public Security Forum.
Last year, there were 15.1 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants in Minas Gerais. It is the largest level since 2018, last year of the management of petista Fernando Pimentel, when it was 15.5.
Zema took over in 2019 and lowered the rate to 13.5. In 2021, the indicator reached the lowest level of the historical series started in 2012 by scoring 11.9. Since then, it has been rising.
In this year’s yearbook, Minas Gerais also recorded worsening in other indicators such as willful homicide (+6.1%), police lethality (46%) and bodily injury followed by death (11.5%). There was a 26.7% drop in the number of murders.
