The mayor of São Paulo, () vetoed 127 measures proposed by the councilors by sanctioning the LDO (Budgetary Guidelines Law) of 2026 on Tuesday (22). The gesture even displeased councilors of its own base.

Nunes also vetoed measures such as revitalization of at least 10 million m² of sidewalks, actions to reduce traffic death rates and claims such as a transfer of 3% of net revenue to the culture secretary and another 3% for urban security actions.

“By imposing the holding of punctual initiatives, many of them already in evaluation or execution by the executive, the devices end up limiting the autonomy of the administration in the definition and the adjustment of public policies according to real priorities and the availability of resources,” he continued.
The mayor also stated in the letter that the 127 new shares do not have ‘any financial sizing’, thus compromising budget viability and fiscal planning for 2026.
