Commander decided to travel to the US after the passenger’s death was confirmed
From Turkish Airlines died during a flight to the US. Now no one knows the whereabouts of the body.
Flight left Istanbul, Turkey, on July 13, towards California, USA. On the way, a man “suffered a serious medical emergency,” said Aviation A2Z Aviation Blog, without detailing what happened.
Crew began deviation of the way to make an emergency landing in Iceland. However, the commander decided to travel to the US after the passenger’s death was confirmed.
Pouso was held at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago. One of the world’s closest airports, the site was chosen because it is considered qualified to deal with emergency situations and have “adequate medical facilities”, said the blog.
Upon arrival in Chicago, body was removed from the plane. According to the New York Post, from that moment, the responsibility would be the Forensic Medical Institute of the region. The agency, however, said it was not recorded in receiving the remains, nor did it even know that a type incident occurred on the date.
Airline manager in Chicago reported that body followed another flight to San Francisco. However, he did not provide details about the logistics, nor did he locate the remains. Turkish Airlines has not yet officially commented.
Medical emergencies occur in one in 600 flights in the US. According to data from the US CDC (Department of Public Health), about three in 1,000 incidents are fatal.
