This Wednesday, The Socialist Party accused the government of Luís Montenegro of having “a deafening silence” Situation in the Gaza Strip.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Thursday that France will recognize the state of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly in September.
Through a publication on the social network X, Macron released the Mahmoud Abbas, in which he confirms France’s intention to become the first great western power to officially recognize the Palestinian State.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs says that Portugal is not pressured to recognize the state of Palestine just because France will do so. Paulo Rangel recalls that this is already the third time, “in the last four months,” that Emmanuel Macron talks about the subject.
“Portugal has always been open to this recognition (…) Portugal is a sovereign country and, therefore, its policy is not defined by other states, but has always been articulated with partner states.”
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, João Gomes Cravinho, regrets that the Portuguese government does not recognize Palestine. Speaking tospeaks of “‘rare divergence’ between different executives from Lisbon, in terms of external relations”.
João Gomes Cravinho believes that if António Costa’s executive had continued, he would have already recognized the state of Palestine.
The Socialist Party itself accused Louis Montenegro’s government of having “a deafening silence” .
