Trying to restore dialogue with the United States Congress amid the tariff of the government countered, in official material, some of the arguments used by the US President to justify.
The entourage, chaired by Senator Nelsinho Trad (PSD-MS), is made up of eight senators, two former ministers of: Tereza Cristina (agriculture) and Marcos Pontes (science and technology). The institutional mission of the Senate will take place between July 28 and 30 and will also have Senate government leader Jaques Wagner (PT-BA).
In the material, the group cites among the objectives of the trip to the defense of the Brazilian productive sectors, the need to reinforce predictability and legal certainty, as well as the intention to prepare the land for a permanent interparlation group Brazil – United States.
In addition to a timeline of Trump’s trade war, senators counter some of the justifications used by the US government to impose tariffs as a punitive measure. Among the reasons cited by the Americans and pointed out in the material are unfair and preferred rates, application of anti -corruption measures, protection to intellectual property, ethanol and illegal deforestation, among others.
In the text, the entourage points out that Brazil “has shown relevant advances in combating piracy and violation of intellectual property rights, especially in the digital environment.”
“Our country has been actively engaged in multilateral initiatives to strengthen the international intellectual property system,” the document says. “The application of tariffs can be counterproductive because it increases costs to US industries consuming these inputs and aggravates domestic inflation in the US at a sensitive time,” he adds.
The mission also states that “unpredictability in trade policy decisions creates an environment of uncertainty incompatible with industry planning horizons.”
