President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Friday (25), during an event in Osasco (SP), that US President Donald Trump was “induced to believe in a lie” by deciding to impose 50% tariff on Brazilian products. In the same speech, Lula climbed his tone against members of the opposition and relatives of former President Jair Bolsonaro, accusing them of acting against the country’s interests.

“Trump has been induced to believe in a lie that Bolsonaro is being chased. First, Bolsonaro is not being persecuted, he is being tried with all the right of defense,” Lula said. “If Trump had called me, I would have explained to him. But they preferred to make a public letter, which shows that he was poorly informed.”

In addition to defending the performance of the Brazilian judiciary in the case of Bolsonaro, Lula fired on opponents who, according to him, ask Trump for more tariffs against Brazil: “They are clinging to the boots of the president of the United States asking him to intervene in Brazil, in a total lack of patriotism,” he said.

According to Lula, there are parliamentarians who have moved away from their duties in Brazil to lobby in favor of Bolsonaro abroad. “It was, ‘ô Trump, do you know my father, Trump?'” He mocked, without quoting names directly.

Lula stressed that Brazil is willing to negotiate with the US and: “Trump, the day you want to talk, Brazil will be ready and prepared to discuss… and you will know the truth about Brazil.”

Appointed as “Number One negotiator”, Alckmin coordinates, with Chancellor Mauro Vieira and Ministers of Agriculture and Finance, a dialogue front with US authorities. “We have already had ten meetings with the United States. And no one can say that Alckmin doesn’t want to talk. Every day he calls someone and nobody wants to talk to him,” Lula said.
