President cites excerpts in which the American speaks of Bolsonaro, taxation to Big Techs and Brazil-Eua commercial relationship

The President (PT) declared on Friday (25.Jul.2025) that there are 3 points in the letter sent by the US President (United States), Donald Trump (Republican), to the Brazilian government announced the 50% tariff on the country’s products that “You can’t accept it”. The speech was during the announcement ceremony of the projects qualified by the new PAC Selections 2025, in Osasco (SP).

This is the excerpts cited by the petista:

  • the justification of increasing tariffs on Brazil’s products for the treatment given to the former president (PL);
  • the non -acceptance that Brazil punishes or regulates the companies called big techs; e
  • The statement that the US has commercial loss in the relationship with Brazil.

“And he [Trump] It has put 3 things that we can’t accept. 1st, the [Jair] Bolsonaro is not my problem, it is a problem of Brazilian justice. 2, in the letter, he says he does not accept that we will punish or regulate companies called Big Techs. And we will make regulation because they have to respect Brazilian law, cannot be promoting hatred among adolescents, telling a lie, trying to destroy democracy and the rule of democratic law. This country has law and, more than law, this country has a people who are ashamed in their face, character and courage to know how to defend themselves. And the 3rd thing that also the US president was misinformed. Is that they told him that the United States is harmed with the business relationship with Brazil ”, said Lula.

“We are calm, we are listening, we really want to hear what will happen and then we will take our positions,” declared Lula.

“July 9, 2025

“Your excellence

“Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva

“President of the Federative Republic of Brazil

“Brasilia

“Dear Mr. President:

“I met and treated former President Jair Bolsonaro, and respected him a lot, as well as most other countries in countries. The way Brazil has treated former President Bolsonaro, a highly respected leader around the world, including the United States, is an international shame. This trial should not be taking place.

“In part because of Brazil’s insidious attacks against free elections and the fundamental violation of US freedom of expression (as recently demonstrated by the Brazilian Supreme Court, which issued hundreds of secret and illegal censorship orders to US social media platforms, threatening them with fines of millions of dollars and expulsion of the Brazilian social media), from August 1, 2025, we will charge From Brazil a 50% rate on all Brazilian exports sent to the United States, separated from all existing sectoral tariffs.

“In addition, we had years to discuss our business relationship with Brazil and concluded that we need to get away from the long and very unfair commercial relationship generated by tariff and non -tariff barriers in Brazil. Our relationship, unfortunately, has been far from reciprocal.

“Please understand that the 50% are much less than it would be necessary to have equal conditions in our trade with your country. And it is necessary to have this to correct the serious injustices of the current system. As you know, there will be no tariff if Brazil, or companies within your country, decide to build or manufacture products within the United States and, in fact, we will do everything possible to quickly approve, professional and routinely – in other words.

“If for any reason you decide to increase your tariffs, whatever the value chosen, it will be added to the 50% we will charge. Please understand that these tariffs are necessary to correct the many years of tariff and non -tariff barriers in Brazil, which caused these unsustainable commercial deficits against the United States. This deficit is a great threat to our economy and, in fact, our national security!

“In addition, because of Brazil’s continuous attacks on digital business activities of US companies, as well as other unfair business practices, I am instructing the United States Commerce Representative, Jamieson Greer, immediately starting an investigation in Section 301 on Brazil.

“If you want to open your commercial markets, so far closed, to the United States and eliminate your fares, non -tariff policies and commercial barriers, we may, perhaps, consider an adjustment in this letter. These tariffs can be modified, up or down, depending on the relationship with your country. You will never be disappointed with the United States.

“Thank you very much for your attention to this subject!

“With the best votes, I am,

“Yours sincerely,

“DONALD J. TRUMP

“President of the United States of America.”
