In summer, American blueberry requires proper care. Watering and mulching are necessary treatments. Experience gardeners advise against radical cuts and exaggeration. They recommend fertilization in July, which has a significant impact on next year’s crops.
In July we are dealing with high temperatures. Due to the fact that American blueberry has a shallow root system, it is sensitive to dryness. That is why watering is a priority at that time.
So the shrubs should be irrigated less often, but abundantly. Each of them should have 15-20 liters of water per week. The heat survives with such irrigation. It is best to perform this procedure in the morning or afternoon, because then the sun does not shine intensively, and the ground stops moisture better.
We pour the water stream straight under the bush, while we avoid soaking leaves and fruit. A good solution is to use drip irrigation. We recommend adding apple cider vinegar to the water (for 10 l 2-3 tablespoons). Then we somehow acidify the soil, which has a positive effect on this plant.
If we want the ground to stop moisture even better, then it is worth mulching with materials such as sawdust, pine bark, peat. We create a 5-7 cm thick layer from them. Thanks to them, we also acidify the soil and also reduce weed growth. It is also worth monitoring plants during harvest. If we notice sick or weak shoots, let’s remove them immediately.

In July, we fertilize American blueberries not only due to the supply of nutrients to this year’s fruit, but also to doubles next year. Two minerals are necessary, namely potassium and phosphorus. They are responsible for abundant fruiting.
American blueberry is fed with fertilizers for acidophilic plants with a lot of phosphorus and potassium, until a moderate dose of nitrogen. We carry out this treatment every 2-3 weeks and end with abundant watering.
It is worth implementing additional. For example, we can scatter 1 cup of coffee coffee coffee around the bush. This waste slightly acidifies the soil. We can also water the plants with slurry from nettle. Then we dilute it with water in a 1:10 ratio.
In the summer, symptoms that indicate the deficiencies of individual components in American blueberries most often appear. For example, the lack of iron associated with the wrong pH of the substrate is manifested by yellowing of the leaves between the nerves. We also notice green veins. Then you need to use iron chelate or iron sulfate.
The leaves can also dye red or purple, which indicates a deficiency of phosphorus. In this case, we apply organic fertilizers, e.g. bone flour. At the brown edges of these parts of plants, i.e. with insufficient potassium, we must start fertilizing with potassium sulfate.
However, we avoid the supply of blueberries with American wood ash. Although it is natural, it has an alkaline reaction, which will not be beneficial for this plant.
