The court of the Federal District accepted on Friday (25) the complaint filed by the prosecutor and made defendants the striker Bruno Henrique, Flamengo, and his brother, Wander Nunes Pinto Júnior. Both are accused of sports fraud.
The decision was issued by Judge Fernando Brandini Barbagalo of the 7th Criminal Court of the Federal District, which considered that there are robust elements to accept the complaint. With this, the two accused must go to trial for the crime. There is no scheduled date yet.
According to the investigation, the athlete would have shared early information about receiving a yellow card in a match of the 2023 Brazilian Championship to benefit a sports betting scheme.
If convicted, the maximum penalty may reach up to six years in prison.
When he was indicted in April, Bruno Henrique’s defense said the athlete “was never involved in a betting scheme.”
“The distortions that are being caused by the improper interpretation and dissemination of private messages, out of context, will be clarified in the course of the process. The athlete trusts that the judiciary will timely correct the injustice being committed,” said another excerpt from the note released by the attacker’s lawyers.
The athlete has not yet spoken on Friday after the court accepted the complaint against him.
