President argued that the country is ‘ready to show’ how much the Republican has been fooled and ‘Bolsonaro is not being persecuted’, but ‘being tried with all the right of defense’
O said last Friday (25), that the president of the United States, He was induced to believe “in a lie” that former President Jair Bolsonaro is suffering persecution in Brazil. “Bolsonaro is not my problem, it is a Brazilian justice problem,” Lula said during an event in Osasco (SP). “The Bolsonaro is not being persecuted, he is being tried with all the right of defense. He tried to hide in that country, he did not want me and me and [vice-presidente, Geraldo] Alckmin took possession and even set up a team to kill Lula, Alckmin and to kill the president of the Superior Electoral Court, Alexandre Moraes. This is already proven by their own denunciation, ”said the president.
Lula has made himself available to negotiate the 50% taxing that the US wants to impose on Brazilian exports. “If President Trump had called me, I would certainly explain to him what is happening to the former president,” he said. For the president, Bolsonaro’s son, federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), licensed his term in the House and went to the United States to ask for intervention in Brazil, “in a total lack of patriotism”. “You in the House has to take action,” Lula told the deputies present at the ceremony.
On July 9, President Trump sent a letter to Lula announcing the imposition of the 50% rate on all Brazilian products from August 1. In the document, Trump justifies the measure citing former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is defendant in the STF for attempted coup; He asks Bolsonaro for amnesty.
Dialogue
Lula then called Vice President Alckmin, who is also Minister of Industry, Commerce and Service, and Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira to negotiate a diplomatic solution with the US country. The government also created a committee to discuss the taxes with the Brazilian productive sector. “Trump, the day you want to talk, Brazil will be ready and prepared to argue, to try to show how wrong you have been with the information you have given you and you will know the truth about Brazil. And when you know the truth, you will say, ‘Lula, I will not tax Brazil anymore.”
“No one can say that Alckmin doesn’t want to talk. Every day he calls someone and no one wants to talk to him. This country is the country of a generous people. So I want Trump to treat us with the delicacy and respect that I treat the United States and the American people,” Lula added.
The president of the United States also justifies the taxes citing “continuous attacks from Brazil to digital business activities of US companies” and alleged “censorship” against US social networking platforms, “threatening them with fines of millions of dollars and expulsion from the Brazilian social media market.” The pressure of these companies against sector regulation in Brazil would have influenced President Trump’s decision to apply tariffs.
Today, Lula has reaffirmed that he will promote the regulation of the so -called Big Techs – the giants that control digital platforms. “We will make regulation because they have to respect Brazilian law. It cannot be promoting hatred among adolescents, telling a lie, trying to destroy democracy and the rule of law and democratic. This country has law and more than law, this country has a people who are ashamed in their face, character and courage to know how to defend themselves,” he said.
Another argument of Donald Trump for taxation would be the damage to the trade relationship with Brazil. “The third thing that also the US president was misinformed,” said Lula. “If you get services and commerce, the United States has a surplus in 15 years of $ 410 billion. So, who should be complaining was us. And we are not complaining, we want to negotiate,” he added.
Finally, Lula stated that he is quiet, but that Brazil will take its positions. The government is studying to respond to the tariff with the economic reciprocity law, but not first without exhausting the roads of dialogue. “I am not only negotiating, but I am putting my partner, the vice-president of the Republic, who is a caleved man, to be a negotiator. And he, obviously, who does not speak hoarse like me, does not seem angry like me, he is all kind. But he knows that Brazil is right,” said the president in Osasco.
