Leaders have shown resistance to the will of the president to participate in the choice of who will be part of the acronym for the next four years. Political groups that operate within the caption say the nominations fit them.

The petista board that will be formed in the coming weeks, with nominations for the national directory and executive, will play a central role in the 2026 presidential campaign, when Lula will attempt reelection.

Divergences have been exhibited at meetings with the president -elect of the subtitle, Edinho Silva, who will take office in August and will have a mandate until 2029.

Former mayor of Araraquara and former minister, Edinho was the name for the position and has communicated to co-religionists that the President of the Republic wants to participate in the choice of members of the executive.

Lula is from the current CNB (building a new Brazil), which got a majority in the national directory. But even within this group there is resistance to the influence of the head of government. Chains are the names by which the political forces that vie for power within the PT are known.

CNB got 51% of the votes ,. The election was held between party affiliates in early July.

Current vice president of the party and main name of CNB in Rio de Janeiro, the mayor of Maricá, Washington Quaquá, said that Edinho told the current members that Lula would like the former minister and former president of PT to be part of the national directory. The conversation would have been on July 15.

According to Quaquá, members of the CNB of São Paulo, where Dirceu tried his political trajectory, claimed to have no room to accommodate former minister. The petista leader says he offered one of the vacancies of Rio de Janeiro in the National Directorate to house Dirceu.

“Zé Dirceu was the great architect of Lula’s victory in 2002 and is one of the largest paintings on the Brazilian left. Not having him in the directory is stupid and a lack of consideration. It’s like giving Pelé in the 1970 World Cup,” Quaquá told the report.

In addition to electing Edinho, the PT voted in plates organized by the various currents of the subtitle to define how many chairs each group will have in the national directory. The agency helps decide which petistas will have executive positions in the party structure.

There are other differences between Lula and CNB. Initially the president did not want the current secretary of finance of the party, Gleide Andrade, to be reappointed to office and only then consented. Gleide’s permanence at the post is now given as consummated.

The president would also prefer a change in the party’s secretary of communication, now occupied by federal deputy Jilmar Tatto (SP). The leader, however, has support both inside and outside the CNB and has been strengthened in recent weeks.

The President of the Republic would also have reservations for the delivery of a new executive position to the Senator (PE), current party president and in the past few weeks at the post. Lula has expressed allies who prefers the subtitle to undergo a renewal of paintings.

CNB had some of its members strengthened from the electoral process because of the results at the polls. This is the case of Senator Beto Faro (PA), Federal Deputy José Guimarães (CE) and Gleide Andrade, as well as Quaquá.

In addition to the petista majority current, there are signs of friction with other political forces. On July 16, Edinho met with members of the PT Movement, a group that was second in the election of plates to the national directory. I also told them that Lula wants to participate in the choice of party executive positions.

The group aims to indicate its leader, the party leader Romênio Pereira, as secretary general of the subtitle or keep him as secretary of international relations, and rejects the hypothesis of not choosing his own representatives for the party summit.

Members of the PT Movement expected to obtain some kind of Edinho Silva commitment related to the nominations. The party president -elect, however, has rejected accepting nominations for positions at this time.

Result of the election for PT president:

  • EDINHO SILVA – 378,009 votes (73.1%)
  • Romênio Pereira – 58,845 votes (11.4%)
  • Rui Falcão – 57,750 votes (11.2%)
  • Valter Pomar – 22,581 votes (4.4%)
