Brazil registered 880 strikes in 2024, in the 2nd year of the government (PT). The number represents a 22.5% drop compared to 1,136 of 2023, the first year of the current term of the petista.

Private Public Sector
Last year’s stoppage, almost half (49.8%) were employees in the public sector and state companies. Most are stable positions that allow this type of practice.
The total hours of 2024, both in public and private companies, was 35,416.
Bolsonaro government
In the first year of the former president’s government (PL) in 2019, 1,118 strikes were held. The stoppages decreased by 2020 and 2021 in the pandemic. In 2022, they rose again. Reached 1,068.
The strikes decreased 58.6% in 8 years. It was from 2,127 in 2016 to 880 in 2024.
There was a 26% drop in stoppages in 2017 compared to 2016. They went from 2,127 to 1,574. Labor reform approved by the Government (MDB) may explain the movement.
