What is a trunk of water?
According to meteorologists, the water trunk is a type of tornado that forms on water bodies, such as rivers, lakes or the sea.
It is an air column spinning at high speed, which extends from a cloud to the liquid surface. They usually form on hot and humid days, especially when there is instability in the atmosphere.
Although visually impressive, water trumples are usually less intense than made on land.
However, they still pose a risk for vessels, bathers and nearby structures, especially if the phenomenon moves toward the coast.
The phenomenon usually lasts a few minutes and most of the time it dissipates naturally.
