The Brazilian female volleyball team was again defeated by Italy on Sunday (27) in the decision of the League of Nations. Champion at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the European team was a favorite again in the Lodz tournament in Poland and won 3 sets to 1 (22/25, 25/18, 25/22 and 25/22).
It was the fourth time that Brazil got silver in the championship. In previous editions, the national team reached the final in 2019, 2021 and 2022 – the most recent, lost the title to the Italians.
Italy was the only unbeaten team in this edition of the League of Nations, with 28 consecutive wins until the final. In addition to the gold medal at Paris Games, the team was the tournament champion last year, an edition in which Brazil ended in fourth place.
After winning the bronze at the Olympics, eliminated by the United States in the semifinal, the Brazilian team has made a solid campaign in the League of Nations. In the preliminary phase of the competition, he guaranteed second place, behind Italy, with 11 wins and a defeat.
Brazil won the Czech Republic, the United States and Germany in the stage played in Rio de Janeiro, and suffered the only setback for the Italian team. In the second week of the competition in Istanbul, the national team beat Belgium, Canada, the Dominican Republic and Turkey, and imposed on Bulgaria, France, Poland and Japan in the third week in Chiba, Japan.
In the quarterfinals, Brazil defeated Germany again. In the semifinal, he made a tense match with the Japanese, but managed to ensure participation in the decision in Tie-Break.
In the final of this Sunday, the Brazilian team began the first set with the most resourcefulness on the court, opening four points of advantage. The Italians reacted and managed to turn around, betting on the blocks, but Brazil made seven consecutive points and closed the first set 25-22.
In the second set, however, Brazil performed much lower – the selection made mistakes in a row and could not fit the attack. Italy only had to manage the pace of the game to draw the match in 1 Sep 1.
The Italian team remained superior on the court on the third set and benefited from Brazil’s failures. The team rehearsed balanced the match, with good moves of Julia Bergmann and Rosamaria, but insufficient to face anthropova attacks and the superiority of the Italian team.
The fourth set started more balanced, with a point -to -point dispute to half the partial, but the Brazilian team failed to maintain performance and allowed Italy to close the set, ensuring the third title in the League of Nations.
