Both leaders have expressed optimism as to the possibility of agreement, although some points of discord persists, mainly related to the export of American auto and agricultural products to Europe.
US President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen gathered on Sunday in Tryberry, Scotland in an attempt to reach an agreement on customs tariffs between the United States and the European Union.
To journalists at the meeting, von der Leyen said that a possible trade agreement with the United States will be “a matter of justice and rebalancing.”
Trump said that there is a strong probability that both sides reach a trade agreement, although three or four main points of discord points are still persisted.
According to the US leader, the main obstacle in negotiations is the issue of “equity”, referring specifically to barriers that make it difficult to export US agricultural and agricultural products to the European market.
Negotiations take place a few days from the deadline of 1 August, when European products entering the US market may be targeted up to 30%.
The meeting takes place in the luxurious golf complex belonging to the Trump family, located on the west coast of Scotland.
