In a joint statement, France, Britain and Germany say: “The humanitarian disaster we are watching in must stop immediately.”
Reacting to UN warnings and non -governmental organizations referring to immediate and generalized starvation in the enclave, the three European countries called on the Israeli government “to immediately lift restrictions on assistance”.
France, Britain and Germany also reminded of Israel that “it must meet its obligations under International Humanitarian Law. It is time to end the war in Gaza”, they added, urging “all sides” to put an end to the conflict. In their joint announcement they also reiterate that they are calling for the release of Israeli hostages and Hamas’s disarmament.
At the same time, “they are strongly opposed to any efforts to enforce Israeli sovereignty on the occupied Palestinian territories”. “Threats, colonization and violent actions by settlers against Palestinians undermine the prospect of a solution that will be achieved through negotiations to coexist the two states,” they said.
Finally, on Thursday, Britain Prime Minister Kir Starmer announced that he was going to discuss the situation in Gaza with his French and German counterparts.
The announcement does not specify whether it was drawn up before or after that communication.
