The victims, aged 53 to 71, returned from the church at the time of the accident. Witnesses reported that the driver drove a black Volkswagen Gol in Zigue-Zaga towards Centro-Bairro and appeared to be drunk. He lost control of the steering and hit the four women on the sidewalk.

After being run over, Nicolas tried to escape without help, but was contained by application motorcyclists who witnessed the action. The Military Police arrived quickly and intervened to prevent the suspect from being assaulted.

The victims were identified as:

Maria de Fátima Oliveira Mendonça, 71 years

Maria Ercília Araújo da Rocha, 54 years old

Marilene Ferreira da Silva, 53 years old

MARIZETE FERREIRA DA SILVA, 61 years

Three of them had light abrasions and were attended on site by the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu). Already Marizete Ferreira suffered more serious injuries, with bleeding and a deep cut in the knee. She was taken to the Rio Branco Emergency Room and is still under observation in the stable traumatology sector.

The breathalyzer test performed by the Traffic Policing Battalion (BPTran) pointed 0.87 mg/l alcohol in Nicolas body – almost three times above the legal limit. He was arrested in the act and sent to the Flagrant Police Station (Defla), where he remains available to the court.

The vehicle involved in the accident belongs to the military’s stepfather, who said he did not authorize the use of the car. The car, which was already recorded in previous infractions, including “Zero Alcohol” assessment, was seized and taken to the State Department of Traffic (Detran) courtyard.
