San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
The Mexican city San Miguel de Allende is the winner of Travel + Leisure magazine ranking on a dominated list dominated by Asian destinations. There is also a Portuguese presence, with the port emerging in 24th place.
The results of the 2025 edition of the World’s Best Awards Da Awards are already known, a prestigious ranking based on the opinion of about 180,000 readers of the publication. Readers evaluated the cities in six categories: Points, culture, gastronomy, sympathy, purchases and quality-price relationship.
The list is led by a relatively unknown city compared to major tourist destinations such as Paris, London, Rome or New York. San Miguel de Allendein Mexico, is the favorite of visitors, who praise their differentiated cultural environment and affordable prices.
Chiang Mai, Thailand, appears in second place, followed by the Japanese capital of Tokyo. Thailand will be present in the top 5, with a bang of appearing in 4th place. Jaipur, India, is the 5th position, solidifying the preference of readers of the magazine by Asian destinations.
Porto appears in 24th place
We must go to 11th place to appear the first European city: Flourish. Italy stood out as the only European country with three cities among the first 25: Florence (11th), Rome (18th) and Siena (23rd).
Spain also had a relevant presence in the ranking, with Seville (12th) and Granada (13th) praised for its historical heritage and Andalusian charm. Istanbul, in Türkiye, was 14th, standing out for his cultural fusion and unique location between two continents.
Interestingly, France, The most visited country in the worldthere was no city among the 25 best. Experts point out that this absence may reflect a change in readers’ preferences, which are largely American, towards smaller cities with a cost-effective, away from destinations such as Paris that are associated with excess tourism.
There is still a Portuguese city in the list: the port (24th place). The presence of Invicta confirms the trend of tourists, who prefer quieter, authentic and more accessible destinations in the post-standard scenario.
