Football has stories of players who suddenly emerge and enchant, suddenly are high to the category of ace, suddenly find themselves with the shirt of a state -of -the -art club and suddenly fall, falling into ostracism.
Some cost fortunes on transfers and did not give the expected or desired return. Among Brazilians, can be cited Alexandre Pato, Leandro Damião, Paulo Henrique Ganso and Denílson (Denílson Show, today commentator).
Candidates for supercracks, appeared exciting to, not long after, fall from production, for technical or physical reasons, with the portentious performances becoming exceptions amid mediocre appearances, which surrounded them more doubts than certainty.
With the name, they are supported by elite teams. Ganso, 35, active in Fluminense, has been living in flashes. There is still value, but “make up the cast”: it is more reserve than holder.
There are cases abroad too. Like that of the Great English Center (1.94 m) Andy Carroll.
In 2010, when he was 21, he made a very good half of the Newcastle in the English Championship, with 11 goals in 19 matches, which earned him the English Team.
In the January transfer window, Liverpool, who had just negotiated Spanish Fernando “Niño” Torres with Chelsea, hired him for £ 35 million (over $ 90 million at the time, plus $ 260 million in the current exchange rate).
The transaction was a record: Liverpool had never paid such an amount for a footballer and never any club had paid so much for a British player.
It was also one of the worst-benefit costs in history. In a combination that included tactical disability, constant injuries and extra-field problems (nights), Carroll was a fiasco, lasting only a year and a half on the team.
The Median West Ham paid £ 15 million for the athlete, highlighting the size of Liverpool’s damage.
The income did not improve in the period at the London Club (2012 to 2019). Carroll returned to Newcastle, remaining non-productive, and from 2021 wandered by lower divisions (West Brom and Reading, England, Amiens and Bordeaux, France).
His name was no longer enough to support themselves in the “big stores” windows, and the “small stores” accepted him because they didn’t have to pay anything in the transfer, and in short contracts.
The height of Carroll’s decline looked like Bordeaux, for which he played in the fourth French division in the 2024-2025 season.
But no. Carroll closed a few days ago with Dagenham & Redbridge, from the city of Dagenham (about half an hour, by car, from London), a semi -professional team that is in the sixth division of England.
Now 36 years old and visual “à laweador”, with a thick beard, said he refused proposals from the best level teams and making more money to choose a personal project.
Carroll wanted to return to the country where he was born to be closer to children in a previous relationship (“they can see me play”), have enough minutes in the field (“No matter the division”) and, at the same time, see Dagenham & Redbridge grow up (acquired minority participation in the club).
The experienced attacker stands in a sports leadership and aims that base categories, focusing on the under-16, reveal talents.
“It’s wanting in my life, it will be fantastic. I’m more excited than ever,” said the new-plating player, who will possibly receive less than Bordeaux ($ 10,000/month). At Liverpool, I pocketed R $ 865 thousand per month.
Carroll decided to do what very few players do in football: abdicating fame and money to, with other ambitions, try to “be happy”.
It will be three years, the duration of your contract, for the attempt to become realization.
