The governors Tarcisio de Freitas (São Paulo), Ratinho Jr (Paraná) and Ronaldo Caiado (Goiás) were unison in saying that the Brazilian government is not interested in negotiating with the United States the tariff issue. The speeches were made during Expert XP in São Paulo.

According to Tarcisio, if the new rates are actually applied, São Paulo could lose about 120,000 jobs with the fall in activity, especially from companies that need American components and inputs. For this, he said the state prepares measures to help the companies from São Paulo.
“We will make a great release of accumulated Credits from ICMS (Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services) and we are talking to the American counterparts, companies and politicians so that they can sensitize the US government and showing the size of the problem. Unfortunately today seeks to take political advantage of everything, so we are in this situation,” Tarcisio said, also defending “national sovereignty.”
Caiado was the most incisive and accused President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva not to seek negotiations with the United States. According to him, the Brazilian president is intensifying the ideological debate to anticipate the 2026 electoral dispute.
“One thing is very clear: Lula does not want to solve the problem. Instead of using the Brazilian Chancellery, which was one of the best in the world, is using phrases of effect. Who is Lula to talk about sovereignty, if he was clapping for Russia when he invaded Ukraine?
