American President Donald Trump meets this Sunday (27), with the president of the European Commission ,. Both parties seek a rate on rates, as the White House deadline to impose rates on the European bloc starts on Friday, 1st.

Leaving the White House last week, Trump said there was “50% chance, maybe less than that” to make an agreement with the EU. The currently scheduled fare is 30% over the 27 Member States block.

Later, Ursula Von Der Leyen posted on the X (former Twitter) that, “after a good phone call” with Trump, the leaders agreed to meet in Scotland to discuss the “transatlantic business relations, and how to keep them strong.”
The United States and the European Union seemed close to the beginning of this month, but Trump, instead, launched the threat of the 30% fare over the block.
Also valid on the 1st are 50% rates on Brazil’s products, which have significant damage to some sectors, such as aircraft export, coffee and orange exports.

The president has been boasting that he would use the constant threats of high US tariffs around the globe to negotiate better rates and reduce commercial deficits with some of Washington’s leading allies. But so far, this effort has been well short of expectations.
Trump also has a meeting scheduled on Monday in Scotland with British Prime Minister Keir Stmerer after both announced a trade deal last month during the G7 meeting (the seven largest economies in the world) in Canada.
Trump says this agreement is completed and the duo will discuss other matters – although the White House has suggested that some adjustments are still needed.

Without an EU agreement, the block said it was prepared to retaliate with tariffs in hundreds of American products, ranging from beef and beer to car parts and Boeing aircraft.
If Trump moves forward with his threat of tariffs against Europe, it could make everything from French cheese and Italian leather goods to German electronics and Spanish pharmaceuticals, more expensive in the United States.
