US President Donald Trump denied the possibility of leaving tariffs against the European Union (EU) below 15%. In a press conference alongside the president of the European Commission, Trump reaffirmed that he seeks commercial justice for the United States.

Von der Leyen agreed that the EU is surplus in the commercial relationship and that it is necessary to rebalancing. “Anyone who doesn’t want to pay any fare should open a factory in the US,” said the US president, summarizing his position.

The leaders estimated at 50% the chance to reach an agreement. The meeting should last, according to Trump, about an hour. The US representative argues that the EU will open its market to Americans. “We don’t sell agribusiness cars or products to Europe. They sell millions of cars to the US,” Trump said.

Both stated that if they come to an understanding, this will be one of the largest agreements between the two largest economies in the world. Trump reaffirmed that if they reach consensus, they will not need to discuss rates or commercial issues for years. “You are known as a hard negotiator,” joked the European leader, who said he considered possible agreement.

However, Trump stated that pharmaceutical products should be out of discussion because they represent a strategic sector. “They have to be manufactured in the US,” he said.
