One man lost his life and another was injured after shootings that occurred early Friday morning in a new Mexican fireplace in their Albukerk, according to a campus police statement.
Information on the identity of the victims or whether they are students have not been released so far.
The incident unfolded at the Casas Del Rio Student Housing Complex (Gila), according to KRQE local television network, a subsidiary of CBS.
The University of New Mexico announced through social networks that the Central Campus was put into a lockdown regime “for protection reasons”, while students were asked to stay on their premises. Powerful police forces have been deployed to the spot.
The alleged perpetrator remains unmistakable and armed while there are instructions for students and staff staying in their rooms and offices. Flower forces are on the spot and conducting an investigation into the incident.
The university has about 23,000 students. Young students visit the campus as part of the weekly scheduled visits in the face of the autumn semester, which begins in about three weeks.
