British “furious” criticize the conditions of this very popular destination in Spain

Some of the most popular locations of the Spanish island in Mallorca are registering an unexpected break in the number of tourists, at a time when summer holidays are already taking place. The Hotel Business Federation of Mallorca (Fehm) highlights Soller, northwest, and capdepera, to this one, as the most affected points.

According to María José Aguiló, executive vice president of Fehm, in statements to the British newspaper Express: “Although there are no official statistics yet, the information collected from our associations indicates that capdepera, strongly dependent on German tourism, and Soller are feeling the biggest breaks in influx.”

The British market is also giving signs of stagnation, and tourists from the Nordic countries are increasingly influenced by negative messages that have been circulating on tourism in the region.

Half Empty Hotels and Less Movement Restaurants

In the middle of the upper season, the Soller and Capdepera scenario is atypical: terrace with few people, easy parking and a generalized break in the commercial movement. Several local businesses are feeling the impact, with bars, cafes and restaurants reporting fewer customers.

Unusually, some establishments have decided to grant their table employees during July, a rare measure at this time, traditionally marked by great influx. Others chose to suspend previously planned hiring.

According to the newspaper Majorca Daily Bulletin, these changes have originated in a break in hotel occupation forecasts since May, a trend that has been extended for the following months.

Uncertain reserves and protests against mass tourism

Fehm points out that two distinct standards are being checked: reserves made in advance and last -minute markings, which makes precise anticipation difficult to demand.

Another factor that may be influenced the behavior of tourists is protests against mass tourism. In Palma and Magaluf, thousands of people have been going out with messages such as “less tourists, more quality of life” and “our territory is not for sale”.

The demonstrations, which attracted up to 8,000 participants, warn of problems such as housing scarcity, pressure on local infrastructure and environmental impact. The Menys Turismo Més Vida platform leads the movement and defends measures such as the limitation of tourist housing and the ban on new hotel units.

Mixed perspectives for the rest of the time

Despite this context, Fehm maintains a moderation speech. The entity believes that the tourist time of 2025 may have results similar to those of 2024, although with considerable variations according to the regions and markets of origin.

According to, the Federation promises to disclose a more detailed analysis as soon as it has access to the complete data. For now, the summer of 2025 in Mallorca is still involved in uncertainty, and the sector’s authorities and agents look closely at the evolution of the coming weeks.
