Summer is in full swing, the first wave of vegetables is behind and some flower beds remain bare ground. But letting her lie fallow is a pity. July and August offers an ideal opportunity for sowing crops with short vegetation periodsor for sowing that returns the soil nutrients and improves its structure. The selection of suitable plants depends on what has grown on the flowerbed before, and on the future plans. What to draw when you want to use the ground and enrich

Short vegetation time is the key to success. Vegetables such as spinach, salads, Beijing or Chinese cabbage, water, radishes or arugula can grow until autumn, even when sowing in July or early August. Baby leaf mixtures are also ideal: fast -growing salad leaves that you can harvest after four weeks. When choosing, however, pay attention to suitable varieties that do not suffer from unnecessary flowering.

But if you are no longer planning another harvest, it is worth sowing plants intended for green fertilization. Mustard, vikves, pods mixed or aksamitník not only enrich the soil with organic matter, but also prevents weeds. Especially legumes such as peas or beans leave nitrogen bound to root tubers in the soil. Therefore, after their cultivation, we recommend leaving the roots in the ground.

Whether you choose other vegetables or green fertilization, remember the rules of crop alternation. Do not grow down relatives of species: For example, cruciferous such as radishes, cabbage or broccoli, nor crops with the same nutrient demands. Each species draws something different from the soil and only by changing you keep the flower beds in the long term fertile and full of the necessary nutrients.
