The court of decreed on Sunday (27), the pre -trial detention of Matteos França Campos, a man accused of killing his own mother, Professor Soraya Tatiana Bonfim, 56, in Belo Horizonte. The crime happened on the 18th, but the suspect was arrested by police on Friday (25).
The decision was determined by Judge Juliana Beretta Kirche Ferreira Pinto, who “decreed the defendant’s pre -trial detention,” said the Minas Gerais Court of Justice. The process is being a secret of justice. The space is open for the manifestation of the defense of Matteos França Campos.
According to the Civil Police, Campos confessed that he had killed his mother by stunning after a heated discussion, motivated by debts he would have accumulated on online bets and on payroll loans. Investigations point out that Campos, after sneaking the teacher, threw the victim’s body under a viaduct in Vespasiano, the city of Greater BH. Soraya was found two days later, on the 20th.
The suspect also traveled with friends on Friday night, moments after the crime, but returned the next day to the capital of Minas Gerais claiming to be worried about his mother, as Soraya did not respond to her contact attempts. The two lived in the same residence.
On Tuesday (22), when the teacher was buried, he even posted on social networks a tribute to the victim. Last Friday, Campos was arrested by police at his father’s house. He was removed from work because of a license granted due to his mother’s death. In the approach, he confessed to the crime, according to the investigators. For now, the case is investigated as femicide.
Matteos Campos was a civil servant and worked as an advisor to the State Department of Social Development since 2021. After being arrested, he was dismissed from office. The departure was confirmed in publication in the Electronic Official Gazette of Minas Gerais (DOE-MG) of Saturday (26). Police are still investigating the motivation for the crime – there is no confirmation yet that Matteos Campos was in financial problems – and if he was premeditated. Monitoring images are also being analyzed.
