Our genocide. This title of two words makes the report on Israel’s offensive in Gaza released on Monday by the Israeli NGO, a text that has been presented at the same time as another document of a second Israeli NGO, (PHr in its acronym in English), which also accuses that country of genocide. For the first time since the beginning of the invasion of the Strip, in October 2023, these two human rights organizations dared to make that serious reproach in their own state, when Israeli attacks have already killed about 60,000 people directly in the strip, almost 18,000 of them children. To that hell, Israel has added now. Around half of the at least 133 people killed by Inanition in Gaza since October 2023 have perished in this month of July.
Not only describes the “terrifying evolution” of the treatment dispensed to the Palestinians, until reaching the “annihilation”, and collects testimonies such as a mother who saw how a tank crushed her husband and two children, or those of people who saw their relatives burn alive in Israeli bombings. It also portrays an Israeli society since they have made it possible for this “genocidal assault” against the Palestinians to last. B WSELEM now claims both to act and stop Israel. Then he warns of the risk that the Israeli army extends his “genocide” to the West Weighlands and other territories.
of 45 pages, entitled For its part The destruction of living conditions. A sanitary analysis of genocide in Gaza, It focuses on the destruction of the health system and concludes that acts such as the “relentless” attacks on hospitals in the enclave “are not consubstantial to war”, but “are part of a deliberate policy directed against the Palestinians as a group.”
The medical organization justifies its accusation of genocide by ensuring that the offensive of its country in Gaza “complies with at least three fundamental acts defined in article II of the Convention on Genocide”; That is, “killing group members, causing serious physical or mental damage to its members and deliberately submit to the group to calculated living conditions to cause total or partial destruction.”
In a state whose official discourse makes another genocide – that of the Nazi Holocaust – one of his reasons for being, no Israeli human rights organization had so far given the passage of accusing his country of the most serious crime that international law collects. These two prestigious NGOs add up to the growing choir of voices of jurists – some Israeli – activists and humanitarian entities that argue that what Israel is executing.
B WSELEM is the abbreviation of the Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the territories, an organization founded to document human rights violations in Gaza, Bank and East Jerusalem, which was born in 1989, during the repression of the first Palestine Intifada. Human Rights (PHR) doctors had been founded a year earlier by a group of Israeli doctors advocating the right to health in Israel and in the occupied Palestinian territories.
More than 35 years later, the reports of these two organizations, whose founders advocated a democratic and humanistic Israel, somehow bury that dream.
El De B’tseem, Our genocide, It highlights how “an examination of Israel’s policy in the Gaza Strip and its terrible consequences, together with the statements of high political and military positions about the objectives of the attack, leads to the unequivocal conclusion that Israel is carrying out a coordinated action to intentionally destroy the Palestinian society in the Gaza Strip”. “In other words, a genocide.”
PHR, argues, on the other hand, that the “deliberate and progressive dismantling of the Gaza health system and, with it, of the survival capacity of its population is equivalent to a genocide.” At least 33 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals and clinics have been destroyed by the pumps or left out of service. More than 1,800 health workers have been killed or arrested. The result of the continuous attacks is the “collapse of the health system”, which has left chronic patients already injured by war without treatment.
“Every day dozens of people die for malnutrition,” the medical organization then denounces. “92% of children between six months and two years old do not receive enough food” and “at least 85 children have already died of hunger,” the text continues. Israel “has displaced nine out of ten inhabitants of Gaza, has destroyed or damaged 92 % of homes and left more than half a million children without schools.” It has also ended “with essential health services, such as dialysis, maternal care, cancer treatment and diabetes control.”
77 years of violence
The B WTEM report dismantles the official Israeli discourse to justify its performance in Gaza. The “current offensive against the Palestinian people”, underlines the organization, does not refer to an response to Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023. On the contrary, “it must be understood in the context of more than 70 years in which Israel has imposed a violent and discriminatory regime to the Palestinians, which has reached its most extreme form against those who live in Gaza.”
From “the creation of the state of Israel [en 1948]the regime of apartheid and occupation has systematically institutionalized and employed violent control mechanisms, demographic engineering, discrimination and fragmentation of the Palestinian collective ”.
Those 77 years of violence are those that have allowed “to launch a genocidal attack against the Palestinians immediately after the attack led by Hamas.” In those attacks, the NGO recalls, 1,218 Israelis and foreigners died, 882 of them civilians, and 252 people were kidnapped.
The report highlights three of the foundations of that “genocidal attack” against the Palestinians. The first is that they live “under a regime of apartheid that imposes separation [de los israelíes]demographic engineering and ethnic cleaning. “The second is” the systematic and institutionalized use of violence against the Palestinians, while perpetrators enjoy impunity. “The third are” the institutionalized mechanisms of dehumanization and presentation of the Palestinians as an existential threat “for Israel and the Jewish Israeli.
These conditions, added to the “catalyst” of the “atrocious” attack of Hamas, caused “deep social and political changes in Israel’s society.” That was the context that allowed “the system in the power to carry out a genocide.”
The Jewish Israelis who support the expulsion of all Palestinians from Gaza raised to 82%.
“We have compiled testimonies of face -to -face witnesses and documented hundreds of incidents that imply extreme and unprecedented violence against Palestinian civilians throughout the territory controlled by Israel, while key military politicians and controls have openly declared the policies that are being applied on the ground,” Br tselem says in his text.
One of these incidents was reported to the NGO by the paramedic Gazatí Muin Abu al Eish, who, in October 2024, was forced to abandon several bodies, along with a womanly dying wound and a baby, when her ambulance was bombarded. When he returned the next day, the toilet discovered that stray dogs had torn and devoured part of the bodies, but that the baby had survived miraculously.
The “innumerable” evidence of “The consequences of these policies reflect the terrifying transformation of the entire Israeli system in their treatment of the Palestinians,” continues B zelem. Not only those of the besieged enclave. The document warns of the “clear and present danger that the actions and the underlying mentality that drive it can also extend to other areas. The attack on the strip” cannot be separated from the escalation of violence that is being inflicted (…), and within Israel. ”
B’Tselm warns that, even while the report was written, ”and cites the use of hunger as a weapon. The NGO then underlines international complicity with the proceeding of the authorities of his country:“ Matanzas and systematic destruction in the Gaza Strip, as well as the growing violence and the forced displacement of tens of thousands of people in the West Bank, would not have been possible. crimes ”.
“Many state leaders, especially in Europe and the United States, have not only refrained from taking effective measures to stop annihilation and violence, but have allowed them to continue”, even with the “sending of weapons and ammunition.” The Document Report then claims “an urgent and unequivocal action by both Israeli society and the international community, as well as the use of all means available by virtue of international law to stop the genocide of the Palestinian people by Israel.”
