A bite root, a soil or tunnel under the seedlings again? Maybe you often hear that the neighbor got into the garden, but in the end he turned out to be a voles. And can’t it be a little hazel? They look a bit similar, but each of these small creatures behaves differently.
Bite as a crusher of root vegetables
Let’s start with the biggest. Water bunny (Arvicola Amphibius) is basically a rodent bulldozer. It measures up to 22 centimeters and weighs even 300 grams, which is more than a regular mouse or voles. He has a short tail, small eyes and a round head. You see it in the title picture. But the main thing is that he loves underground life. He builds tunnels and often reveals it to mole -like pile. will joy into potatoes, carrots and fruit trees.
How to get rid of him? Sometimes it is enough to put used socks or garlic decoction in his corridor. But hand on heart, Baba’s advice is not always 100 %.

The voles are inconspicuous and insidious
The field voles (Microtus arvalis) is smaller and looks like a cute mouse without a distinctive tail. It measures about 10 centimeters and multiplies rapidly. In a year, a pair can handle 4 to 5 generations. It lives a short distance below the ground, in shallower corridors and destroys mainly young shoots or bark of trees.
Experienced gardeners advise to put the remains of fish or pieces of soap. The smell is said to discourage rodents. Others stab sticks with human hair or foil cubs that rustle in the wind. It is not easy.
Blit you find most often sleeping
Muscardinus Avelanarius is more of a garden celebrity. Looks like a little teddy bear or a cute hairy mouse. He has large eyes, rusty coat and hairy tail. It is made of three smallest, measuring around 8 cm without tail. He loves forests, hedges and draws, but he doesn’t want to go to the beds. During the day it is not visible, it does not live in the ground and does not even make tunnels.
Moreover, the leaf is protected by law and must not be scored. If you see him, rejoice. It means that your garden is ecologically varied. Rather, you will not see him during the day, if so, huddled into the ball somewhere in the bushes in the nest of dry grass.
What works for them?
There are traps on both the bites and the voles today, both mechanical and pitfalls. Inadvertently, however, you can poison other animals. Therefore, put the poison bags in the corridors. On the Internet and in stone shops you will also find ultrasonic shots that broadcast unpleasant vibrations, which bothers rodents, but it does not always completely discourage them.
It also helps regularly pedaling the soil or watering the garden or shedding of the created tunnels, which upset their corridors. Ecologists also recommend association with predators. And on a larger area is invaluable help from kestrel or owl, it pays to make booths.
