Helena Ferro Gouveia and Miguel Baumgartner, commentators of CNN Portugal, join Alberto Cunha, a specialist in European affairs, to analyze the situation in Gaza.

“The situation is quite complex. This could have been stopped, with a ceasefire, which would have the suffering on both sides of the border if Hamas had released the hostages,” says Helena Ferro Gouveia. “The images we see, and are terrible, especially from the suffering of children, do not mirror the whole territory and all reality,” he adds.

Alberto Cunha draws some of the steps to the future to try, he says, “relieves the situation” and “bringing a perspective of peace to this country.” “I think there is no solution other than the solution of both states,” he adds.

Finally, Miguel Baumgartner speaks of a “Hamas that is broken” and questions who will keep a ceasefire on the ground that will be agreed. “Since Hamas is broken and has two strands, a policy and a military, and only the politics has managed to reach a common denominator for ceasefire, there seems to be this difficulty,” he concludes.
