The American technology giant Apple will first close one of the physical stores in China, where its market share has fallen in recent years due to competition from rising local brands.
On the official portal, Apple China confirmed that the store at the Parkland shopping center in Dalian (Northeast) closes next August 9. In this city, with about 7.5 million inhabitants, there is another store about three kilometers away, which remains open.
According to a statement sent by the company to the specialized body Macrumors, the decision was made after “the departure of several Parkland shopping center salespeople”, and all closed store employees “will have the opportunity to keep their posts” at the company.
The Economic News Portal Sina recalled that Apple closed a store in Beijing in 2020, although in this case it was to open another new and larger nearby two days later. In addition, he stressed that the technology company will open an establishment in Shenzhen (Southeast) on August 16.
According to data from IDC consultant, in the second quarter, Apple fell to fifth place in the table of mobile phones in China, surpassed by local Huawei, Vivo, OPPO and Xiaomi.
