Thirty outstanding members of Israeli society have released on Tuesday a statement in which they demand and apply “drastic sanctions” on Israel. The statement, in which a former president of the Israeli Parliament and a former Attorney Prosecutor participate, asks the world’s leaders to keep these measures on Israel until the Benjamín Netanyahu government ends the “brutal” military campaign and launches “a high permanent fire” in the Gaza Strip.
“Our country is and contemplating the expulsion of millions of Palestinians from the strip,” denounces the note. The signatories, who present themselves as “Israeli committed to a peaceful future” for both their country and their “Palestinian neighbors,” claim to write the letter “with deep shame, anger and agony.”
This call has the explicit support of professors from several Israeli universities, as well as filmmakers, writers and other names that stand out in the fields of art and science in Israel. Avraham Burg, former president of the Israeli Parliament; Tamar Enjoy, Exparliamentaria, and Michael Ben-Yair, former Attorney General of Israel and former interim judge of the Supreme Court, also appear among the signatories. The latter has been meaning this Tuesday in their social networks: “The Jews, who suffered a genocide 80 years ago, are committing a genocide in Gaza. Shame, anger and pain.”
The firm that heads the statement is Yuval Abraham, journalist and (“no other land”), a documentary that co -directed and reflects before the aggressions of the Israeli army and the Jewish settlers. Precisely, he collaborated in the elaboration of that film, as Abraham himself denounced.
The publication of this plea comes the same day in which the Ministry of Health of Gaza has reported that the deaths recorded in the strip because of the Israeli bombings, although that list excludes thousands of disappeared under the debris and others dead directly caused by the Israeli block to humanitarian aid.
