A convoy with 1,300 tons of help goes to Gaza from Egypt, says the red crescent

The Egyptian red crescent assured that a convoy with 1,300 tons of humanitarian aid came out this Tuesday for the third consecutive day from Egypt towards Gaza, passing before the crossing of Kerem Shalom, in Israeli territory.

The convoy transports “around 1,300 tons of aid, divided into about 440 tons of various foods, about 450 tons of flour, around 150 tons of medical supplies and 200 tons of personal care supplies,” said the crescent in a statement, in which it did not specify how many trucks it is composed of said convoy. Humanitarian aid will be downloaded in Israeli territory, where the authorities of that country will inspect it to determine if they allow the Palestinian enclave to enter.

This new convoy arrives a day after the president of Egypt, Abdelfatah Al Sisi, asked his American counterpart, Donald Trump, to “make all efforts” to end the war in the Gaza Strip and to allow access without restrictions on humanitarian aid.

From the outbreak of the war on October 7, 2023, the participation of Egypt, Qatar and the US as mediators tries to achieve a suspension of the conflict, enter humanitarian aid and free the hostages captured by the Islamist group Palestinian Hamas. In this regard, he recalled that the Gazatí population needs at least “between 600 and 700 aid trucks” daily.

The impediments to the entry of the aid by Israel for months have raised harsh criticism by the population and also Hamas, who have accused the Egyptian government of not exercising more pressure to deliver help to Gaza, although Rafah’s Palestinian side is controlled by Israel and nothing can enter without his permission.

Hunger deaths have shot in recent weeks in Gaza, after the almost total closure of the accesses imposed by Israel in March, which prevented the entry of food, medicines and fuel and drastically aggravated the nutritional crisis in the enclave. (EFE)
