Environment Minister Marina Silva again criticized on Tuesday (29) what she called “tariff wars” between countries and said the world should be focused on fighting poverty, health problems and climate change.
“Instead of being wars with each other, war war, instead of making tariff wars against each other, undermining the space of cooperation and solidarity, we should be doing war against the serious health problems, poverty and forms of mischief that are affecting humanity,” the global conference on climate and health.
US President Donald Trump announced a new wave of fare earlier this month. For Brazil the highest rate of 50%was announced. The rate will be valid from next Friday (1st). The Brazilian government still seeks a negotiation.
Trump made the announcement in a letter addressed to Lula on his social network, Truth Social. In the document, the American states that the collection is necessary in view of the stance of the Supreme Court (STF) to former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
Governors argue that the tariff measure is a serious interference in Brazilian sovereignty.
In April, shortly after Trump announced 10% rates to Brazil, Marina Silva had already expressed concern about the rates. He said Trump’s measures break with multilateralism are detrimental to joint cooperation and climate action.
On Tuesday (29), the minister also criticized the war war wars that occur “in regions of Africa, Ukraine and in the Gaza Strip”, but stressed that the deaths generated by climate change should produce the same indignation, noting that the world lives a state of climate emergency.
“More than 500,000 people in the world lose their lives every year due to heat waves. According to data, more than 260,000 lives are being lost by wars. When we see the scenes that reap these lives, we would be outraged. […] But the silent war of climate change, which causes older people and children to lose their lives, cannot create the same impact, ”he said.
