Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira said on Monday, the 28th, that countries should apply with an international law in the face of “believable allegations” of genocide in the Gaza Strip.

“Calvary Palestinians face is a test to our collective commitment to international law, humanitarian law and human rights. When confronted with credible genocide allegations, invoking international law is not sufficient. We must apply it with determination,” said Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva government chancellor.

Since the beginning of the war, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been criticized by the Jewish community for his position in the conflict and about Israel. Lula came to be considered an undesirable presence in the country because he even compared the Israeli actions in Gaza, detonated by the October 7 attacks perpetrated by the terrorist group Hamas, to Nazism, which is considered offensive by the Jews. The Rusgs led to the withdrawal of the Brazilian ambassador in Israel. There is no replacement forecast.

Days ago, the chancellor announced during an interview with TV Catari Al-Jazeera that Brazil decided to formally entered the open process against Israel by Genocide, initially proposed by South Africa. The case runs at the UN International Court (CIJ) in The Hague. The country has not yet formalized the decision to intervene in the process.

In this Monday’s speech, Vieira recalled that the Court “established clear guidelines” to countries, which include “not recognizing the illegal situation created by the presence of Israel in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, differentiating in all relations with Israel between its territory and the occupied Palestinian territory, to refrain from any action that can assist or contribute to the maintenance of occupation and to guarantee the right of the Palestinian people and the right of the Palestinian and the right to self-determination and the right to the fourth Geneva Convention ”.
