According to Bangkok, gunfights continued on Tuesday in the border areas of Phu Makua and Sam Taet.

The Thai army accused Cambodia of the ceasefire only a day after both countries closed it. Despite the agreement to suspend the fighting of the collision on the common border, TASR reports according to the AFP report.

“After the ceasefire was announced, the Cambodia’s riots were reported in the Makua area that led to the shootout between the two sides, and they continued until morning,” said the Thai army representative. “In addition, there were also collisions in the Sam Taet area, which continued until 5:30 am local time (0:30 CEST),” he added.

Cambodia denies the accusations

AP reported that the Cambodian Ministry of Defense denied Bangkok’s claims. “After the ceasefire came into force, there was no armed conflict. Compliance with the ceasefire is a fixed decision of the Cambodian leadership,” the Ministry spokeswoman said. She added that the military commanders of both countries should meet on Tuesday on the basis of an agreement on the ceasefire.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced on Monday that Thailand and Cambodia agreed with the unconditional ceasefire to end the border encounters. The reigning Thai Prime Minister Pchúmtcham Véčajaja and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed the result of their joint meeting.

Tragic conflict balance

The armed conflict has claimed at least 35 dead since Thursday, and more than 200,000 people have been displaced.

Thailand and Cambodia have a long -lasting dispute over the definition of a border in the area known as an emerald triangle. In May, he grew into cross -border struggles with one victim in the ranks of Thai soldiers. Since then, both parties have taken retaliatory measures. Thailand has limited cross -border contact and Cambodia stopped the import of some raw materials and foods. The conflict escalated on Thursday only shortly after Thailand expelled the Cambodian ambassador and withdrew from Phnom Penho in response to injury to a Thai soldier who rose to the treadmill in the controversial border zone. Bangkok accused his neighbor that the area was lying.
