The United Kingdom will recognize the state of Palestine in September, unless the Israeli government takes substantial measures to end the “terrible situation” in Gaza and comply with other conditions, British Prime Minister Keir Stmerer told his cabinet on Tuesday, according to a government statement.
“He said that the United Kingdom will recognize the state of Palestine in September, before the United Nations General Assembly (AGNU), unless the Israeli government takes substantial measures to end the terrible situation in Gaza, it will make it clear that there will be no attachment in the West Bank and committed to a long-term peace process that offers a solution of two states,” the statement said.
“He reiterated that there is no equivalence between Israel and Hamas and that our demands to Hamas remain: they must free all hostages, sign a ceasefire, accept that they will not play any role in Gaza’s government and disarm.”
Unique opportunity
Legacy Card: Far beyond a service

Strmer made the decision after summoning his office during the summer holidays on Tuesday to discuss a new peace plan proposal being prepared with other European leaders and how to provide more humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Successive British governments have stated that they will formally recognize a Palestinian state when it is the right time without ever establishing a schedule or specifying the necessary conditions.
With the warnings that people in Gaza are starving, an increasing number of parliamentarians from the Stmerer Labor Party asks him to recognize a Palestinian state to press Israel.
