Las Vegas will host the 2026 Football World Cup draw on December 5, according to several media reports published on Tuesday (29).
ESPN and Tudn Mexico said that Las Vegas, Nevada, had been chosen for the first World Cup draw with 48 teams, which will be organized by the United States, Canada and Mexico. In total, 12 groups of four nations will be drawn.
FIFA, organizer of the world’s leading football event, has not yet confirmed information about the date and site of the ceremony.
The ESPN report initially indicated that The Sphere, with a capacity of 17,500 people, was the favorite place to host the draw.
But the station later said, citing sources of the music and entertainment arena, that the ceremony would not happen at the scene, opened in 2023 and which has a screen of 54 thousand square meters.
Sources of The Sphere later confirmed AFP that the place will not host the event.
In 1994, the World Cup draw was also held in Las Vegas, although the city is not the headquarters of any match, a situation that will take place again in the edition of next year’s tournament.
