Senator Carlos Viana (Somos-MG), a member of the Senators entourage who is in Washington (USA) to discuss US tariffs to Brazil, said on Wednesday that the group was alerted by US congressmen approving a law to punish those who maintain negotiations with Russia. The measure could affect Brazil, which makes fertilizer trade with the country.

“There is another worse crisis that can reach us in 90 days. Both Republicans and Democrats have been firm to say that they will create a law to apply automatic sanctions to all countries negotiating with Russia. And it will not be a decree of the President of the Republic as the tariff, will be an American law. The two parties will support,” Viana said in an interview with journalists in Washington.

For the senator, the “message” of the congressmen will enable Brazil to have time to prepare, unlike what happened with the tariffs, which will come into force on Friday, August 1.

“We have to work in advance. Brazilian foreign policy is being warned that there is something that can reach us much more strength in the next 90 days. We are making this alert,” he said.

According to Viana, an American senator told the entourage that Brazil could have the possibility of reasons to be able to maintain the purchase of fertilizers without injuring the American law.
