The Brazilian team defeated Uruguay 5-1, on Tuesday night (29), at Casa Blanca stadium in Quito, and advanced to the decision of the America Women’s Cup-in the process, a place at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The game of the title of the continental dispute will be against Colombia, at 18h (Brasília) of Saturday (2), in the same place.
Faced with the Uruguayan formation, Arthur Elias’s commanders established their superiority. By the end of the first half, the advantage was three goals, scored by Amanda Gutierres, Gio Garbelini and Marta, on a penalty. In the final stage, they had difficulties, they took a goal from Pilar González, but reestablished the order with a gutier lack of Gutierres and a Dudinha finish.
Brazil will thus fight for the title for the tenth time in ten editions of the competition, inaugurated in 1991. The yellow-green team has eight tournament titles and only did not win it in 2006, when it was surpassed by the Argentine champion in the final round of the final quadrangle.
Favoritism is Brazilian again, but the opponent has shown strength in the international scenario. Colombia reached the quarterfinals of the last two major world championships of the sport: the 2023 World Cup, with a 2-1 defeat to England, and the 2024 Olympic Games, with a penalty shootout for Spain and Spain made the Euro final last Sunday (27).
Brazil and Colombia decided the last Copa America (1-0 to Brazil in 2022) and have already faced each other in the current edition, in the final round of Group B. Arthur Elias team acted with one less since the 23 minutes of the first half, because of the expulsion of goalkeeper Lorena, but held 0 to 0 and the leadership of the key.
With the first position, he faced Uruguay, second placed from Group A. More efficient in the first 45 minutes, despite having offered chances to the opponent, he built a good advantage. Gutierres, at 11, scored headlong after Marta’s cross. Gio, at 13, took advantage of the area. And Marta, at 27, converted a penalty quite contested by the celestial formation.
The game was controlled, but it was almost complicated after the break. Isa Haas scored against six in an attempt to cut corner, and escaped a red card – there was yellow – for a hard foul. Uruguay had a clear new chance, with Belén Aquino, and shortly thereafter was punished in a free kick of Gutierres, at 20. Then everything was decided. And Dudinha still widened the advantage at 42.
Across the key, Colombia faced Argentina, group A leader, last Monday (28). After a goalless draw, he won 5-4 on penalties. The game – like Brazil on Tuesday and like everyone in an event marked by neglect – had tiny audience in Ecuador.
