Britain will recognize its state in September unless the Israeli government is taking substantial steps to end the “awful situation” in Gaza and meets other conditions, British Prime Minister Kir Starmer said.

Successive British governments have stated that they will formally recognize a Palestinian state at the right time, never setting a timetable or clarifying the conditions necessary to do so.
The issue came back to the forefront last week after French President Emmanuel Macron said Paris would officially recognize a Palestinian state in September.
The war between Israel and Hamas, which lasts 22 months, has ruined Gaza. Israel has recently been receiving more and more criticism of the devastating humanitarian situation in the Palestinian enclave, which is under siege after the outbreak of the war and has been subject to almost complete exclusion since March.
